We are fortunate to have two specialists masseurs working at the Spa, in addition to three generalist masseurs.  This means that we can deliver a quality of massage you may struggle to find elsewhere, because our specialists provide regular on-site training and support to develop the skills of our generalist therapists.

Pregnancy

Four of our therapists are trained to carry out Antenatal (pregnancy) massage.  Research shows that massage has very positive benefits for both mum and baby including relaxation, bonding and helping to alleviate the aches and pains that often appear in later pregnancy.  Provided your pregnancy is going well, we can massage you right up to the point you go into labour! Antenatal massage is adapted throughout the stages of pregnancy using positions of comfort, such as side-lying, and plenty of padding to ensure that your massage is really comfortable and relaxing.

Please note that we cannot carry out antenatal massage in the first trimester of pregnancy.  In the second and third trimesters for most pregnancies, massage is most beneficial.  However if you are “high risk” or have complications in your pregnancy we will require written approval from your GP, midwife or consultant prior to your massage.

Sports and Injuries

Sports massage has been shown to help improve performance, reduce recovery times, and assist with preparation for and recovery from competition.  We have two sports masseurs on our team, both of whom are also qualified personal fitness trainers and have competed in athletic disciplines at international level.

Sports massage can be used to aid recovery from specific injuries and/or maintain flexibility and mobility to speed recovery and enhance personal performance.  These massages tend to be quite vigorous and focused on very specific areas of need – for this reason they can also be uncomfortable in places!

If you are having sports massage for injury recovery, your injury must be past the acute inflamed stage.  If you are unsure please speak to us before booking.

Chronic Medical Conditions

Many chronic medical conditions can benefit from massage.  We have experience of working with many conditions to deliver real benefits, including:

  • cancer
  • parkinsons disease
  • MS
  • ME
  • fibromyalgia
  • cerebral palsy
  • spina bifida
  • diabetes
  • auto-immune diseases
  • back pain
  • PMS
  • depression
  • post-surgery

Massage as a non-invasive touch therapy can help to stimulate blood circulation, relieve muscular pain and tension, improve joint flexibility and posture, aid relaxation, enhance sleep, prevent stress and anxiety, and improve overall wellbeing.

If you have a chronic medical condition we may need approval from your GP or consultant prior to carrying out massage.  In many cases a GP or consultant can also advise on the areas that would most benefit from massage and any that we should avoid during treatment.  Please speak to us about whether you need medical approval prior to booking.

Holistic

We have a holistic masseur working with us who can combine holistic therapies such as reiki and crystal healing with her massage therapy to enhance the effects.  If you are interested in this holistic approach we recommend booking our Signature Healing Therapy and discussing your requirements with the therapist prior to treatment.
